KeyCare Plus 2024 Options & Benefits
KeyCare Plus Options And Benefits: The KeyCare Plus GP Network Plan by Discovery Health has the same advantages as the KeyCare Core plan, plus cover for network GP visits and some daily medications. The KeyCare Plus benefits cover private hospitalization in the KeyCare Network of hospitals, limited specialist cover (if referred by a network GP), and chronic medication cover for illnesses on the Chronic Disease List.
The KeyCare Plus plan is ideal for those looking for a basic hospital plan, and limited cover for day-to-day medical expenses at a low cost.
Home-based Hospital Network
Instead of being admitted to a typical hospital, Discovery Hospital at Home offers qualifying members the option of receiving hospital-level home-based treatment. The KeyCare Plus plan offers home-based care for qualifying conditions such as:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
- Pneumonia or asthma,
- Complicated urinary tract infection,
- Heart failure or deep vein thrombosis,
- Cellulitis and diabetes
KeyCare Plus members are not required to use this network in the event of an emergency or if the home-based treatment is not suitable. But if you opt out from using this network after you have been advised it as part of your care, the admission will be subject to an R5,000 deductible.
KeyCare Plus Oncology Benefit
Up to 100% of the Discovery Health Rate (DHR) is covered for all cancer-related healthcare services. If you do not use the Discovery designated service provider (DSP), you may be required to pay a co-payment. But you are fully covered by the Oncology Care Programme should you decide to use a DSP.

On the KeyCare Plus plan, members have unlimited coverage for medically appropriate GP visits, blood tests, X-rays, or medication from Discovery’s KeyCare networks. Members are guaranteed full hospital cover for KeyCare Network Specialists, and up to 100% of the Discovery Health Rate (DHR) for other healthcare providers.
Does Discovery KeyCare Plus cover private hospital admission?
You are protected in an emergency at any private hospital in South Africa. You are covered at any hospital in the KeyCare Hospital Networks if it is not an emergency. You must pay the claim if you do not go to a KeyCare network hospital for planned admissions.
Does KeyCare Plus cover the dentist?
If you have a KeyCare Plus plan, Discovery only covers certain basic dental treatments (consultations, fillings, and extractions) at a KeyCare Network Dentist. Certain limitations and restrictions may apply.
What are the KeyCare Plus Maternity benefits?
A Discovery KeyCare Plus member receives comprehensive maternity and early childhood benefits. These benefits cover specific healthcare treatments before and after birth.
